Transit Capital Assistance Funds

The ARRA funding allocations for the Transit Capital Assistance (Urbanized Area Formula, Nonurbanized Area Formula and Growing States and High Density States) and Fixed Guideway Infrastructure Investment programs can be found in the March 5, 2009 Federal Register Notice.  Government-wide information is also available on A separate Federal Register notice on ARRA Capital Investment Grants program allocations will be published soon.  The funds available for the Transit Capital Assistance (Public Transportation on Indian Reservations) and Energy Consumption and Greenhouse Emissions Reduction programs will be allocated on a discretionary basis.  Federal Register notices announcing the availability of funds, soliciting project proposals and providing application procedures will also be published.  FTA-specific information will continue to be posted on this website.

According to the March 5, 2009 Federal Register Notice, the Evansville IN-KY Urbanized Area was allocated $2,945,993.  The City of Evansville will receive $2,615,993 of those funds.  The City will use this money to make the Metropolitan Evansville Transit System (METS) fleet more efficenty and environmentally friendly through the purchase of additional hybrid buses, retrofitting existing facilities and buses to use biodiesel, enhancing maintenance capabilities, and other measures as follows:

Three (3) Hybrid Low-Floor Buses


Six (6) 20-Seat Diesel-powered Phoenix Vans
(Phoenix Vans meet California emission standards, the toughest in the country, and are equipped with extra-heavy capacity wheelchair lifts)


Fuel Tank Upgrades
(Prepare the fuel tanks of non-hybrid buses to use B20 – a fuel blend using 20% biodiesel, a renewable resource made from vegetable oils, such as soybean oil)
